Go “green” with Bamboo

By admin  //  Design, What's Green?  //  Comments Off

Bamboo is 16% harder than maple and is actually a grass that grows to a harvestable height of 60 feet in about 3 to 5 years, growing as much as 2 feet per day. It also naturally replenishes itself, making it a highly renewable resource.

However, bamboo lumber is not
“solid” in the same sense as hardwoods but consisists of layers laminated with glue and high pressure in various grain orientations. It is thus important to ensure that the manufactuer utilizes VOC-free (Volatile Organic Compounds) (eg.formaldehyde) glue in producing bamboo lumber. Now that’s green!
