Go “green” with Bamboo

By admin  //  Design, What's Green?  //  Comments Off

Bamboo is 16% harder than maple and is actually a grass that grows to a harvestable height of 60 feet in about 3 to 5 years, growing as much as 2 feet per day. It also naturally replenishes itself, making it a highly renewable resource.

However, bamboo lumber is not
“solid” in the same sense as hardwoods but consisists of layers laminated with glue and high pressure in various grain orientations. It is thus important to ensure that the manufactuer utilizes VOC-free (Volatile Organic Compounds) (eg.formaldehyde) glue in producing bamboo lumber. Now that’s green!

Fight Cancer Pixel by Pixel

By admin  //  Ideas + Innovation  //  No Comments

The Canadian Cancer Society has come up with an innovative idea which sells pixels to eliminate cancer. Wonder if it’s being refreshed if all pixels are purchased, and still no cure. Great idea nonetheless, and perhaps can be used on other applications as well. www.pixelfight.ca

Innovative and Earth Friendly

By admin  //  Design, Ideas + Innovation, What's Green?  //  Comments Off

If we could construct homes that leave smaller footprints, doesn’t it make sense to do so? Go back to simple, efficient lifestyles of the past, but this time with more technology and intelligence to do so with max comfort, and minimum side effects. Why can’t this be done on a larger scale? This is a growing trend, but needs to be mainstream in the very near future to sustain our standard of living and extend the human existence. See more: http://bit.ly/9EOxzl
